'Dogs dominate Rebels, sweep UNLV on the road

LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State volleyball team swept UNLV, winning 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 on Thursday night at Cox Pavilion.

The Bulldogs hit .269 as a team, out-blocked the Rebels 9–2, and never trailed in the match by more than two points on their way to a wire-to-wire road sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State took control early behind an efficient offense and timely serving, jumping ahead 12–7 and never looking back in the first set. The Bulldogs hit .391 in the opening frame while holding the Rebels to .000. Peyton Bitter and Brooklyn Washington led the opening push, and the Bulldogs closed the set on a 7–1 run.

The Bulldogs continued their clean offensive play in the second, opening with a 5–2 advantage and extending the lead behind balanced scoring from four different attackers. Addison Haluska led the set with multiple kills during a mid-set surge, and the Bulldogs sealed the set after forcing nine UNLV attack errors.

UNLV pushed back with its strongest offensive set, pulling even at 17–17. The Bulldogs responded with four straight points, highlighted by a pair of service aces from Olivia Lombardi. Haluska and Washington combined for late kills to close out the sweep.

NOTES

Fresno State held UNLV to .000 hitting in the opening set and .104 overall.

The Bulldogs had three players with 8+ kills and hit over .390 in both the first and second sets.

Fresno State recorded a 9–2 blocking advantage, including five blocks from Sellers.

Olivia Lombardi served three straight aces late in the third set to break the tie at 17–17.

Gabby Lombardi recorded 31 assists with zero setting errors.
