FRESNO, Calif. – Under rainy conditions all night, Fresno State defeated Wyoming 24-3 at Valley Children's Stadium on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs improve to 7-3 on the season and 4-2 in Mountain West play with hopes of a Mountain West Championship Game still in reach.
Fresno State's run game erupted for 216 yards, its most in a conference game this season. The Bulldogs held Wyoming to just 184 yards of total offense, the lowest in a conference game this season.
The Bulldogs were led offensively by Rayshon Luke with 16 carries for 92 yards. Bryson Donelson added 13 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, while Johnathan Arceneaux had four carries for 70 yards and a score.
Carson Conklin saw his first passing touchdown as a Bulldog, connecting with Josiah Freeman late in the game. Conklin finished with 95 yards, completing 12-of-27 pass attempts.
Defensively, redshirt freshman Tytus Khajavi led the Bulldogs with six tackles, and his first career sack.
How it Happened
Fresno State received the opening kick, and scored on the opening drive for its first time since Sept.13 vs Southern. Fresno State pieced together a 10 play drive that was highlighted by eight carries on the ground. Bryson Donelson and Rayshon Luke combined for 55 yards on the drive as Donelson broke free for a 12-yard touchdown run. Wyoming picked up a big play early on, but was held to a 41-yard field goal after a pass breakup from Simeon Harris. Fresno State had a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
With Wyoming at 3rd-and-9 on the Fresno State 44-yard line, Tytus Khajavi came off the edge and sacked Kaden Anderson for a loss of 17 yards to bring back out the punt team. Both teams stalled in the second quarter but Fresno State was able to tack on a 40-yard field goal by Dylan Lynch with under a minute to go before halftime. The Bulldogs led 10-3 at halftime.
Down to the Wyoming nine-yard line late in the third, the Bulldogs were unable to find the end zone and brought out the field goal unit but Lynch missed wide right to hold the score at 10-3 heading into the fourth.
Wyoming, with an already flat offense, attempted a deep ball that was intercepted by Al'zillion Hamilton. Fresno State cashed in for points as Johnathan Arceneaux broke through for a 58-yard touchdown run on the next play to give the Bulldogs a 17-3 lead with 12:58 on the clock.
With 3:02 left on the clock, the Bulldogs took over at the Wyoming 24 yard line. After three rushes and sitting at 3rd-and-9, Carson Conklin delivered a deep pass to Josiah Freeman for a 13-yard touchdown that sealed the win for the Bulldogs late in the game.
