'Dogs drop midweek to Gaels, 8-4

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team was defeated 8-4 by the Saint Mary's Gaels on Tuesday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The loss drops Fresno State's record to 15-17 and advances the Gaels to 15-16 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Griffen Sotomayor drove in the Bulldogs' first run of the evening as he reached first on an RBI fielder's choice and scored Owen Faust. Cam Schneider followed shortly after with a bunt single that drove in Eddie Saldivar, giving Fresno State a 2-0 lead after the first.

The Bulldogs scored another pair of runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Saldivar and an RBI single from Sotomayor.

The Gaels evened the score in the fourth with a bases clearing double and tallied two more runs in the fourth with back-to-back hits.

Saint Mary's scored two more in the seventh inning on three hits, finalizing the score at 8-4.

NOTES

Cooper Bergman made his first career start on the mound.

Jett Ruby totaled two hits, a career high.

Garrett Sinfield made his Bulldog debut and recorded his first strikeout.

The Bulldogs will travel to San Diego to continue Mountain West play against San Diego State, with first pitch scheduled for Friday at 6:05 p.m. PT.
