Bulldogs rally for a win over the Spartans

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball earned their tenth home win of the season on a fourteen point win over San Jose State on Saturday at the Save Mart Center, 99-85.

Fresno State played for their sixth conference win as five Bulldogs finished in double figures, the most this season. Mia Jacobs led the pack once again on a new career high 36 points backed up by six three-pointers to join her 14th double-double this season. Maria Konstantinidou hit a career-high 18 points as Mariah Elohim put down 15 points on five three-pointers. Kylee Fox and Saga Ukkonen both saw 11 points on the day.

How it happened

'Dogs started strong offensively with a three pointer by Elohim to give the 'Dogs an early 3-0 lead over the Spartans. Jacobs soon followed with her own three-pointer to extend the 'Dogs lead to 9-5. The Spartans soon tied it up, 9-9. Elohim then answered with another three-pointer to put the 'Dogs in front with six minutes to go. Konstantinidou joined the scoring with her first field goal of the quarter extending the Bulldogs lead to 17-11. With three minutes remaining, the 'Dogs capitalized on two consecutive Spartan turnovers on a 5-0 run. Elohim sank in another deep three and Konstantinidou with a jumper. Rayna Williams capped off the first quarter on a layup with seconds remaining handing the 'Dogs a 28-19 after the first ten.

San Jose State continued to push back, cutting the lead to 31-23 before Konstantinidou went to the charity stripe (2-of-2) to restore the Bulldogs double-digit lead. With under four minutes to go Fresno State's deep three point shooting came to life as Kylee Fox made her first three of the night followed by Jacobs third. Jacobs hit another shot from downtown to teeter on twenty points at 17. San Jose State's Sydni Summer sank a three pointer at the buzzer to close the first half. Fresno State held a fifteen point lead entering the break, 46-31.

Konstantinidou and Elohim continued to set the tone offensively entering the third with another set of back-to-back three pointers. Bulldogs' quickly stretched their lead to 20 with six minutes remaining in the quarter, 57-37. Fresno State played on a 7-0 scoring run sparked by Holly Griffiths on a second chance tip-in layup, Konstantinidou (1-of-2) and Jacobs (2-of-2) made trips to the line and Danae Powell hit another second chance basket.

San Jose State outscored Fresno State 34-29 in the fourth but could not manage to break the Bulldogs double digit lead. San Jose State was able to break the 'Dogs largest lead of the day at 23 to as low as 11 in the final two minutes, 92-81. Bulldogs' took four trips to the line (6-of-2) in the final minute of play. Jacobs matched her career high 32 points on a deep three but wasn't stopping there as she marked a new career high 36 points, which came on a layup with three minutes to go.
