12-Year-Old Baker From California Competes On Food Network

A 12-year-old baker from San Jose is one of 12 young participants on the Food Network's "Kids Baking Championship."

Bella Luu will be competing with other young bakers for a $25,000 prize.

"Oh my gosh, these kids are absolutely prodigies...like, how do people do this," Luu said to ABC7. "And that actually made me want to learn it more, too."

Luu has always baked but during the coronavirus pandemic, she used her time to step her baking game up.

"I really just needed to find a passion and a hobby since all my sports are pretty much postponed," said Luu. "I was absolutely obsessed with it."

While searching for recipes online, Luu came across the Kids Baking Championship.

"So I started looking into Kids Baking Championship and I actually found the application website," she said. "I told my parents and was like, I want to do this."

Along with the $25,000 prize, the winner will also be featured in Food Network's magazine if she wins.

The Kids Baking Championship 2021 finale crowned its winner on February 15, but despite not having won baking has become something Luu sees herself doing in the future.

"I'm hoping that someday I can open something that requires food or maybe baking, I think it's definitely going to be a long-term thing."
