O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! (Psalms 95:6 NRSV)How can we possibly expect to be all God calls us to be if we don't spend some time each day in communion with our Creator? This may be why the church of Jesus Christ is being so ineffective in our time. If those of us who lead the church both clergy and laity do not keep the lines of communication open to God, how can we hope to hear God's voice? How can we hope to sense God's leading? Many of us need to go to our knees more often than we do.
I read a humorous item recently about Neil Marten, a member of the British Parliament. Marten was once giving a group of his constituents a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament. During the course of the visit, the group happened to meet Lord Hailsham, then lord chancellor. Lord Hailsham was wearing all the regalia of his office. Hailsham recognized Marten among the group and cried, "Neil!" Not daring to question or disobey the "command," of the lord chancellor, the entire band of visitors promptly fell to their knees and knelt!
Well, you and I need to spend more time kneeling in prayer to our Father in heaven.
God of peace, humble me as I kneel in prayer to you. Amen.
